Back in 1991 when the integration design for
this system was being developed, there was very
little guidance information available to assist in
the design of integrated GPS-- at that time, we
were at the forefront of the GPS integration
movement. The approach selected utilized the
pseudo-FMS capabilities of the INS in conjunction
with a GPS Integration Module that provided the
required signal inputs, partitioning, filtering,
and RAIM. This design would allow the aircraft to
navigate using GPS sole-means, integrated INS-GPS,
or INS (in addition to RNAV). To minimize program
cost/schedule and provide a near drop-in solution,
modified Commercial Off-the-Shelf was utilized
where possible. In what ways is this similar to
your situation? In what ways is it applicable? We
may be able to help. A detailed diagram of the E-4B GPS Integration
is summarized below. Enjoy. Note: To keep the detail
& maintain the flow, scrolling may be required.
